I LIKE IT A LOT - The Darkness
As recommended by Kate Beaton of Hark, A Vagrant! fame (who I love so much I get a little swoony) The Darkness is a comic by French cartoonist Boulet. He produced it as part of 24 Hour Comics Day, where artists create 24 pages of work during a 24 hour period as a lead-in to the Angoulême Comic Convention. Participants can submit on their own or join a venue hosted in various cities. The MSP one can be found here.
Considering that all submissions have to be drawn (story, finished art, lettering, color, etc.) formatted and online within 24 hours, the quality produced is pretty incredible.
The Darkness surprised me, as I thought it was going in one direction and instead totally went in another. Also, I think we’ve all met people who fall in the category described, and the way it’s treated is hilarious (ex., the WHOOOSH during room entrances/exits, the “Marjorie Effect.”)
Will definitely be exploring Boulet’s site to see the rest of his work.
